Upcoming Range Rover Sport SVR to Get 616 HP BMW XM 5 Engine
The upcoming Range Rover Sport SVR is reported to be powered by the same 616 horsepower V8 from the BMW X5 M Competition. The report comes courtesy of Autocar. They claim that the the V8 will also be used in a EV set up as well. The report is not hard to believe as Range Rover and BMW currently have a powertrain-sharing agreement. The new Range Rover is already powered by the same engine found in the BMW X5 M50i.
In addition, the Range Rover Sport outsells the standard Range Rover by over 40%. Land Rover’s new MLA Flex architecture also has 50% more torsional stiffness. It reduces structure-borne noise by 24% as well. In combination with the twin turbo-charged 4.4-liter V8 from the XM 5 Competition, the new Range Rover SVR could better compete with other high performance luxury SUVs.
Currently the Range Rover Sport SVR is powered by the 567 horsepower 5.0-liter V8 found in other Jaguar-Land Rover’s Special Vehicles. This includes the Jaguar F-Pace SVR and the F-Type SVR. Expect the new 2023 Sport SVR to match the X5 M’s 616 horsepower and 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds. It will likely have a more aggressive body styling and quad-exit exhaust as well.
