Ferrari 296 GTB Price $321,000, Specs: 0-60 MPH in 2.9 Seconds, Top Speed 205 MPH
The Ferrari 296 GTB price starts around $321,000 and the new hybrid supercar has an expected release date of early 2022. Its performance specs include a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph. However, opting for the Assetto Fioriano package increases its price to $360,000.
Performance Specs/ 0-60 MPH
The 296 GTB is the first Ferrari road car to sport a V6 turbo with an angle of 120° between the cylinder banks, coupled with a plug-in electric motor. It is also the first Ferrari to feature the turbos installed inside the vee of the cylinder banks. In addition to lowering the center of gravity and reducing engine mass, this particular architecture helps deliver extremely high levels of power.
In combination with an electric motor at the rear, the 296 GTB’s combined maximum power output produces specs of 819 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque. This puts it at the top of the rear-wheel-drive sports car segment. Power gets sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed DCT.
Finally, the Ferrari 296 GTB can sprint from 0-60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and from 0-124 mph in 7.2 seconds. Top speed is 205 mph. In comparison, its 0-60 mph time is the same as the F8 Tributo. However, its top speed is 6 mph lower than the F8. It can also drive 15.5 miles on electric power only with a full charge.
Active Spoiler
The main aerodynamic signature of the rear of the Ferrari 296 GTB is an active spoiler. It generates extra downforce and maximizes the car’s handling and braking performance at high speeds. In addition, the active rear spoiler is seamlessly integrated into the bumper design, taking up almost all of the space between the taillights.
When maximum downforce is not required, the spoiler is stowed in a compartment in the upper section of the tail. But as soon as acceleration figures exceed a specific threshold, the spoiler deploys and extends from the fixed section of the bodywork. As a result, downforce specs increase by 220 lbs increase over the rear axle.
Driving Modes
The transition between electric and hybrid modes is fundamental to the sports car characteristics of the Ferrari 296 GTB. How the powertrain manages the power available is important as well. This is why a power management selector (eManettino) has four positions:
- eDrive: the internal combustion engine is off and there is pure electric drive to the rear wheels; with a fully-charged battery the car can cover 15.5 miles at a maximum speed of 83 mph.
- Hybrid (H): this is the default mode on ignition. The power flows are managed for maximum efficiency and the control logic defines the intervention of the internal combustion engine. With the engine on, the car develops its maximum power and performance.
- Performance: the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) is always on and helps maintain the battery efficiency to ensure full power at all times. This is the ideal setting for press-on driving.
- Qualify: provides maximum performance but at the cost of lower battery recharging.
Exterior
The Ferrari 296 GTB’s design gives it an extremely compact and modern look. For instance, it has a visor-style windscreen that wraps around onto the side windows. The headlights also take their inspiration from the “teardrop-shaped” headlights of the past. In the rear, the 296 GTB features a single central exhaust tailpipe – a modern touch. As we mentioned earlier, the active spoiler is stowed in the bodywork between the taillights and completes the design.
Lastly, the 296 GTB sports a new alloy wheel with a twin-spoke design. There are also specific five-spoke forged wheels with a diamond-cut finish available for an added price. Furthermore, there is even a carbon-fiber wheel option, with 7.6 lbs lighter specs than their forged counterpart and sets a whole new performance benchmark.
Assetto Fiorano
The Ferrari 296 GTB Assetto Fiorano package delivers maximum performance thanks to significant weight reduction and aero content. For example, its price includes special GT racing-derived adjustable Multimatic shock absorbers optimized for track use. High downforce carbon-fiber appendages on the front bumper can also deliver an additional 22 lbs of downforce. In addition, the Assetto Fiorano package features a Lexan® rear screen, and more extensive use of lightweight materials such as carbon-fiber for both the interior and exterior. Michelin Sport Cup2R high performance tires which are especially suited to track use because of their grip are included as well. However, its 0-60 mph time and top speed specs remain the same.
For an additional price, a special livery inspired by the 250 Le Mans can also be ordered exclusively by owners who opt for the Assetto Fiorano package. Its design runs from the front wings and hugs the central grille and delineates its edges. It also continues along the hood up to the roof and then down onto the rear spoiler.
Price and Release Date
As we mentioned above, the Ferrari 296 GTB has a price of around $321,000. However, if you opt for the Assetto Fiorano package the price increases to $360,000. It has a release date of early 2022. That it when the first European customers will be taking delivery. More information will come out closer to its release date as well.
