Audi A6 e-tron Concept Debuts as Preview of Next Gen A6
The Audi A6 e-tron Concept debuts as a fully electric luxury-class Sportback concept car that will be built on a new platform called Premium Platform Electric (PPE). The next generation A6 will look very close to this concept and will be an electric-only model. Production is expected to being in 2022.
Design
The A6 e-tron Concept is a representative of the luxury class with dynamic proportions, elegant lines, and a fastback design. In addition, it has a drag coefficient of just 0.22 which is unprecedented in the electrified C-segment. As a result, this translates into lower energy consumption and an extended range. It also has large 22-inch wheels and short overhangs, a flat cabin, and wide coupe roof. This gives it proportions reminiscent of a sports car. In the front there is the new Singleframe grille which makes it apparent that this is an electric vehicle. Furthermore, the concept is painted in a “Heliosilver” finish that accentuates the shape of the body with a three-dimensional depth effect. The paint also helps reduce energy consumption because it can reflect a significant percentage of thermal radiation in sunlight. This keeps the car cool and lessens the use of the air conditioning system.
Lighting
The A6 e-tron Concept has flat headlights and taillights that are slim and flush with the body lines. In addition, it has Digital Matrix LED and digital OLED technology. This makes it possible to achieve a maximum brightness and a wide range of features in a minimal surface area. In addition, there are three small, high-resolution LED projectors built into each side of the body. When the doors are opened, a dynamic lighting effect greets occupants. High resolution projectors also display warnings on the ground. For example, they can warn a biker when the door is about to open. Lastly, the Digital Matrix LED front headlights can achieve an almost cinematic quality. When the car is parked in front of a wall, the driver and passengers can pass time playing a video game projected onto it.
Fast Charging
The Audi A6 e-tron Concept features 800-volt charging technology. Like the Audi e-tron GT, the battery can be charged with up to 270 kW in a very short time at public DC fast-charging stations. As a result, it takes just 10 minutes at a public DC fast charger to charge more than 186 miles. It also takes less than 25 minutes to charge from 5 to 80 percent. The battery allows it to achieve a range of 435 miles. Lastly, the entry-level models can achieve a 0-62 mph time of 7.0 seconds and the high-performance variants are expected to do it under 4.0 seconds.
PPE
The Audi A6 e-tron Concept is the first member of a family of vehicles based on the Premium Platform Electric or PPE for short. The PPE modular system is being developed in conjunction with Porsche. In addition, the first Audi production vehicles built on the new platform are expected to debut in 2022. PPE vehicles are specifically designed to be delivered globally. As a result, they can accommodate an unprecedented range of automobiles including SUVs and CUVs.
Release Date
The Audi A6 e-tron Concept is just a preview for now. However, you can expect the next generation A6 to look very similar to this. It could also go into production some time next year.
