2023 Ford Ranger Raptor Price, Specs, and Release Date
The 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor debuts as the second-generation model built for enthusiast to dominate the desert, mountains, and everywhere in between. The Ranger Raptor is the ultimate performance version of the all-new Ford Ranger. Only the European spec model has been revealed as of yet. The good news is Ford CEO Jim Farley confirmed it will be available in the USA with a release date next year.
Engine
In Europe the Ford Ranger Raptor has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 producing specs of 284 horsepower and 362 lb-ft of torque. However, it is rumored the USA model will produce specs of 392 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.
Ford Performance ensured the engine delivers immediate response to throttle inputs. It also features a race-bred anti-lag system similar to that first seen on the Ford GT road car that enables rapid delivery of boost on demand.
In addition, an electronically‑controlled active exhaust system amplifies the engine note in four selectable mode:
- Quiet – prioritizes quietness over performance and sound to keep the peace with neighbors on early mornings
- Normal – intended for everyday use, this profile offers an exhaust note with presence while not being too loud for street use. This profile is default to Normal, Slippery, Mud/Ruts, and Rock Crawl drive modes
- Sport – offers a louder and more dynamic note
- Baja – the loudest exhaust profile in both volume and note, in Baja mode the exhaust behaves more like a straight-through system. Intended for off-road use only.
Specs
Chassis & Suspension
The 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor has a unique chassis when compared to the all-new Ranger and completely redesigned the suspension. It has lightweight aluminum upper and lower control arms, long‑travel front and rear suspension, and a refined Watt’s link rear end. This delivers more control across rough terrain at high speed.
The suspension also features next-generation FOX® 2.5-inch Live Valve internal bypass shock absorbers. They are the most sophisticated ever fitted to a Ranger Raptor and reduces friction by around 50% in comparison to the previous model.
Furthermore, it has some serious underbody protection. For instance, the front bash plate is almost double the size of the standard Ranger. It is made from 2.3 mm-thick high-strength steel and protects key components such as the radiator, steering system, front crossmember, engine sump and front differential.
Lastly, twin rated tow hooks at the front and rear provide flexible recovery options while driving off‑road. This design allows for access to one of the tow hooks if the other is buried.
All-Wheel Drive
For the first time the 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor gets an advanced full-time four-wheel drive system. It has an all‑new electronically‑controlled on-demand two-speed transfer case with front and rear locking differentials. It also comes with seven selectable driving modes.
On-Road
- Normal – designed for comfort and fuel efficiency
- Sport – more responsive for spirited on-road driving
- Slippery – for more confident driving on slippery or uneven surfaces
Off-Road
- Rock crawl – for optimum control in very low speed driving over extreme rocky and uneven terrain
- Sand – optimises gearchanges and power delivery for progress in sand and deep snow
- Mud/Ruts – for maximum grip during launch and maintaining vehicle momentum
- Baja – sets all systems to maximum attack for peak high-speed off-road performance
Lastly, the new Ranger Raptor features Trail Control as well. It is like cruise control for off-roading. The driver simply selects a set speed below 20 mph and the vehicle will manage its acceleration and braking.
Exterior
The exterior of the new Ford Ranger Raptor has flared wheel arches and a C-clamp headlight design that emphasizes the pick‑up’s width. F-O-R-D lettering on the grille and the tough separate bumper add to its aggressive look. The front features matrix LED headlights with LED daytime running as well.
Furthermore, the flared fenders cover muscular 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Raptor-exclusive performance all‑terrain tires. Functional vents, aero features, cast-aluminum side steps also help enhance the look and functionality of the truck.
Interior
The interior of the 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor features all-new jet fighter-inspired sports seats in the front and rear. The instrument panel, trim and seat have Code Orange accents. A premium leather sports heated steering wheel with cast-magnesium paddle shifters completes the sporty feel.
In addition the high‑tech interior features a 12.4‑inch all-digital cluster and 12-inch center touchscreen. Ford’s new-generation SYNC 4A® connectivity and entertainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its price. Lastly, a 10-speaker B&O® sound system provides the soundtrack to your next adventure.
