2022 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Rendered on Forgiato Wheels
This 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 render imagines what the new sports car would look like lowered on Forgiato wheels. The render was posted to instagram by artists @trentonchen. In addition, the render has the SL 63 spec’d in matte white with contrasting black wheels. Aftermarket tuners can get their hands on the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 when it comes out later this year.
Exterior
The 2022 Mercedes AMG SL 63 features a long wheelbase, short overhangs, and long front hood. The passenger compartment is also set back with a strongly raked windscreen and the powerful rear end. As a result, it has the typical SL proportions.
In addition, the AMG-specific radiator grille emphasizes the effect of width of the front. Its 14 vertical slats cites the ancestor of all SL models, the legendary 300 SL racing sports car of 1952. Other distinctive design elements include the slim, sharply outlined DIGITAL LIGHT LED headlamps and the equally extremely slim LED rear lamps.
Soft Top
The decision to have a soft top on the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 was made to have less weight and a lower center of gravity. It results in a 46 lb weight savings over the hardtop. Opening and closing takes only about 15 seconds and is possible up to a speed up to 37 mph. The soft top is operated using the switch panel in the center console or the multimedia touchscreen.
Performance Specs
On its release date, the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL will come in two flavors: the SL 63 and SL 55. Both are powered by an AMG twin-turbo 4.0-liter engine. In the SL 63 it produces specs of 585 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.
That allows it to achieve a 0-60 mph time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 195 mph. However, the SL 55 it produces specs of 476 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. That allows it to sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds and top speed of 183 mph. Furthermore, a performance hybrid model will debut down the line.
Active Aerodynamics
The 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 has an active air control system called the AIRPANEL. The first piece operates with vertical louvres hidden behind the lower air intake in the front apron. The second piece is located behind the upper air intake and has horizontal louvres. Normally they are closed, but when components reach a certain temperature, they open to allow more air in for cooling.
